This weekend, on Friday the 13th, I saw
The Cabin in the Woods, a legitimate horror-comedy movie that really has a new take on the genre. This is no
Scary Movie,
The Cabin in the Woods is a legitimate horror movie, that still manages to be very comedic at the same time. This movie is really a case of, "the less you know, the better", so I won't go into detail about what happens in the movie, but it's pretty much your average horror movie about a group of young people staying in a secluded cabin in the woods(very similar to the most recent
Friday the 13th film). Basically, the first half of the movie is pretty much an explanation of why the same events happen in every horror movie, and why the characters always make the same bad decisions(such as "splitting up to cover more ground"). While having a very comedic side, this portion of the film still manages to have several good thrills. The second half of the movie is almost a behind-the-scenes take on what is really going on mixed with some strong action elements. The ending of the movie is very good, so I won't spoil it, but I will say that you probably won't expect it. If you don't mind a little(more like a lot of) blood and would like to see a good movie, go see
The Cabin in the Woods, you won't be disappointed.
